My therapeutic approach incorporates a variety of modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Psychodynamic treatment.  While each type of treatment involves different modalities for understanding a problem, all of them are based on a foundation of building an emotionally safe and trusting relationship to foster insight and awareness.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy: The focus of this type of treatment is to increase the ability to identify, understand and manage emotions with the goal of becoming more interpersonally effective. It’s a four pronged approach which includes mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The focus is on the present, rather than exploring the past.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy: This approach to treatment is based on the idea that our experience is formed by the feedback loops between our thoughts, biology, behavior, and emotions. The premise is that we can find ways to address powerful or painful emotions by influencing our thoughts, behavior and biology. The focus is on identifying thinking patterns in order to alter the system.

Psychodynamic Therapy: This approach involves exploring our past. The reason for this is that our childhood and formative experiences serve as a map for creating meaning of successive reality. Another important premise is that we are not always aware of the reasons behind some of the things we do. The goal is to explore patterns, understand where they might be rooted, and bring to light unconscious motivations.
